A poker table is especially designed for players to comfortably play a game of poker. It has features especially designed with the rules of poker in mind.
First is the table shape which is fairly oval with one portion deliberately indented and reserved for the place of the poker dealer. The players then can take their position on the sidesm which are often slightly curved to indicate position.
Since poker games can take long hours, players often suffer from tired arms when the game is played in ordinary tables. Professional poker tables have raised edges called "rails" that are padded so that players can rest their arms. Elegant poker tables also incorporate slots for glasses, cups and small dish bowls. These slots are carved in the portion called the "racetracks" and provided by a layer of thick wood placed between the table board and the rail.
Professional poker tables like those games that are recorded and televised also have the so-called pocketcam slots where tiny cameras are installed to record a player's pocket or cards.
A poker table traditionally uses baize (also called felt) as covering material for the table top. This is a material of coarse woolen with teflon coating which enables the poker dealer and players to easily slide the cards around.
